Pond planner

How big is your pond, really?

Work out the gallons, the liner size and the pump you need in a few seconds. Then let us double-check it on site.

Shape

Free-form pond? Use the average length and width. Gallons = length × width × depth × 7.48 (× 0.785 for round and oval).

What else a new pond needs.

A pump is only one part of an ecosystem pond. These are the pieces we put in nearly every one.

Questions

Measuring tips

How do I measure an odd-shaped pond?

Measure the longest length and the widest width, then take the average of a few measurements each way. For depth, average the shallow shelves and the deep middle. The planner’s answer will be close enough to size a pump.

Why does the planner pick a bigger pump than my gallons?

Pumps are rated with no height or pipe. Every foot the water has to climb to the top of the waterfall, and every foot of pipe, cuts the real flow, so we size up about 25%. On site we measure the actual height.

How much liner overlap do I need?

The planner adds a foot all the way around, so the edge can be tucked under rock. Streams and waterfalls need their own liner on top of that.
